gripping adventure

.
So gripping that one is UNABLE to read straight through--because one occasionally needs to pause from the excitement, to catch one's breath.
Which explains why this became an instant classic when first published in 1978, and why it has remained in print since.
First-hand account by field naturalist and nature writer Peter Matthiessen, who is said to have been the first one to crystallise the now-cliche "sense that one might find oneself in the mountains" . . . most vividly capture mountain-climbing's
spiritually-elevating aspect (yes, it is not done merely "because it is there").
Shares the stage with Erik Weihenmayer's "Touch The Top of The World", Maurice Herzog's "Annapurna", and Joe Simpson's "Touching The Void".
Simply awesome.
