作品を通して何が言いたいのかさっぱりわからない、
近未来のピノキオは一体本当の人間になれるのか？なれたのか？
物語は近未来の洗練された世界から、その底辺で虐げられる泥臭い世界へ、果てはフェアリーワンダーランドへとさまざまに展開するも、
そのエンディングは、混沌としてカタルシスを得るとまでは行かない。
このどこか救われない気持ちは、メイキングのチャプターを見て、納得。
つまり、この映画の構想は20年前から当時存命中のスタンリーキューブリックとスピルバーグとの間で練られ、未完のままになっていたものを完成させたものだとの由。そういわれて改めて見て見れば、映像や物語の展開のあちらこちらに、キューブリックのほかの作品を彷彿とさせる断片がちりばめられていることに気づく。逆を言えば、スピルバーグらしさを、私は感じない。しかも、そのことで、この映画の価値が上がるわけでも下がるわけでもない。また、メイキングなしには、その作品を語ることが出来ないような映画なんて、キューブリックがそんなものを喜んだとは思えない。
現代のピノキオは人間になれるのか？それは、見る人の判断におまかせします。

What happened? Popular actors, Big budget, a whelming director. Basically I think this suffers from the same syndrome that “Star Wars” episode one was affected by. It is way too cutesy and like in a dream (nightmare) if you get painted into a corner, just add a new element. Each actor alone was great with the elements that they were given, However as a whole they never jelled.

One thing that saves this film is the edition of the DVD goodies. The making of the film in the theory behind the film are more interesting than the film. If you’d like to Gigolo Joe, then that is primary because they allowed Jude Law to put a little bit of his own slant on the character.

In the final analysis this is a tearjerker with no redeeming social value.

人工知能。冷たすぎる響きです。A.I.＝物。必要なときは利用する。邪魔になれば処分する。生まれる＝不幸？ハーレイ君の無邪気な笑顔も手伝って、人間の身勝手さに腹が立ちます。A.I.に対する考えを、今こそ改めて考えるべきかも…。
